Underfoot: Long Walks Last updated: 16 September 2026
Underfoot collects nothing. There is no account, no server, no analytics and no third-party code of any kind. Everything the app knows about you stays on your device, and, if you choose, in your own private iCloud.
We cannot see your steps, your distance, your journal or your purchases, because none of it is ever sent to us.
With your permission, Underfoot reads one thing from Apple Health: your daily step count. It is used for one purpose: converting steps into distance along the route you are walking.
If you decline permission, or your device has no step history, the app still opens and works.
Your hikes, daily step records, journal entries, completed sections and milestones are stored locally on your iPhone.
If iCloud is enabled on your device, this data also syncs through your own private iCloud database, so it appears on your other devices. That database belongs to your Apple Account. We have no access to it and no ability to read it. Apple's handling of iCloud is covered by Apple's privacy policy.
Subscriptions and the one-time purchase are processed entirely by Apple. We never receive your payment details. The app asks Apple whether a purchase is active; it receives an answer and nothing more.
Underfoot never requests or uses your location. The routes are fixed lines from public survey data; your position on them is calculated from step count alone. The app contains no GPS guidance and is not a navigation tool.
There are none. No analytics SDK, no crash reporting service, no advertising identifier, no tracking of any kind. The app makes no network requests of its own; it works fully offline, including on first launch.
